Pace at a Glance

THE NUMBERS
Founded in 1958, Pace Academy educates 1,040 students in grades Pre-First through 12. The average Upper School class size is 12 and the average whole-school student teacher ratio is 9:1.
 
 
THE FACULTY 
The faculty averages 16 years of teaching experience, 9 years at Pace Academy. Of the 59 Upper School teachers, 80 percent hold graduate degrees or higher (10 hold Ph.D.s.)
 
 
COLLEGES 
The 276 graduates of the school's past three classes earned acceptances to 224 colleges and universities in 43 states and three foreign countries. They enrolled in 106 of these institutions. 
 
 
ACADEMICS 
Every 2011 Pace senior took at least one Advanced Placement course with 84 percent scoring 3 or higher on the culminating AP exam. The class included six National Merit Finalists, one National Merit Semifinalist and 10 National Merit Commended Scholars. In all, more than 20 percent of the class received recognition from the National Merit Program.
 
 
THE ARTS
In the past five years, Pace students have earned 46 regional and national Art Awards.
 
 
SERVICE
Pace was one of Atlanta’s first schools to make service a graduation requirement. Last year, Upper School students contributed more than 9,000 service hours (seniors averaged 88 hours during their time at Pace). The school partners with nine community service agencies.
 
 
ATHLETICS
More than 80 percent of Middle and Upper School students participate in at least one of Pace Academy’s 54 athletic teams. 
 
 
DEBATE
In 2009, Pace won the Georgia High School Association State Debate Championship for the 22nd-consecutive year. The 2002 debate team won the national championship.
 
 
LOWER SCHOOL
The fifth grade placed first in the nation in the 2011 National WordMasters competition. More than 700 teams at each grade level participated in the yearlong competition.
 
 
NATIONAL HONORS
Pace was cited as an exceptional ethical learning community by the National Association of Independent Schools and was one of 10 independent schools studied by the Institute for Global Ethics.
