 Danny Doyle has dedicated his life to music and education. Dr. Doyle's bands have performed at prestigious regional conferences and workshops and have consistently won first place honors in competition. Dr. Doyle is also in demand nationally as an adjudicator and clinician. He has far-reaching goals for Pace’s band department: "I love for a band to go places. There is nothing more fun than putting a concert or group together and taking it ‘on the road,’" he says. |

 Lower School MusicVonda Vrieland
• Fourth year teaching music in the Lower School. • Graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music Education from Georgia State University. • Earned a Presser Award from GSU. • President of Collegiate Music Educators national conference. • Taught at Christ the King School in Atlanta. • Experienced in Orff-Schilwerk and Kodaly. • Performed in the pit orchestra for “Annie,” “Damn Yankees” and “the Music Man.” |
 Stand outside her classroom and listen to all the wonderful sounds and you will understand why Vonda Vrieland is fast becoming a beloved teacher at Pace. Her unique way of getting and keeping students attention helps her connect and develop the fundamentals of music. |

Phyllis Sommer
| •Fifth year teaching Middle and lower schools’ choral groups at Pace.
•Bachelor of Music in voice performance from capital University conservatory of Music in Columbus, Ohio.
•Received extensive training in the Kodaly method.
•Studied at the Summer vocal Institute in Graz, Austria. •Taught for 15 years in California, Ohio and elsewhere in Georgia.
•Member of Chancel choir at Trinity Presbyterian, where she directs the cherub choir and hosanna ringers.
•Member of GMEA, NEMC, Organization of American Kodaly Educators and Choristers Guild.

 One of Phyllis many accomplishments at Pace is the renewal of a combined choral experience. teaming with Trinity and Paidea she is bringing back an event that helps bring talents together through practice, performance and friendship. This one day intensive choral camp is open to her students and highlights the many talented voices of the minstrels. |

 Upper School ChorusBeth Barrow-Titus

• Fifteenth year at Pace, after teaching at private schools in Buffalo and Washington, D.C..
• Bachelor of Arts with music major from the University of Cincinnati
• Master of Music with voice major from S.U.N.Y. at Buffalo
• Professional soloist with Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Greater Buffalo Opera Company, Artpark Opera Company and Studio Atena theatre.
• Recipient of the inaugural Olive Ringo Award for Outstanding Teaching (Nichols School, 1991), and the Kessler Excellence in Teaching Award (Pace Academy, 2002).
• Directs Upper School chorus and ensembles, Music Director for Middle School and Upper School musicals, teaches Advanced Placement Music theory, Music in film, Music history.
• Established the spring tour to orlando, which has become a chorus tradition.
• Annual chorus performances include the December and May concerts, Songs of the Season, the holiday Sing-along, A Musical Valentine and Tour Assembles for Pace students.

 As the Fine Arts chair for Pace Academy, Beth leads with distinction and seasoned experience. Her talents and years of service have proven to be very helpful in her role. She champions all students in every discipline of the fine Arts. |

• Sixth year teaching Middle School drama and dance at Pace.
• Bachelor of Arts in theatre from Georgia College & State University.
• Studied and performed in london and the Czech Republic.
• Interned with Actors express in Atlanta.
• Has performed and directed throughout Atlanta.
• Serves on the Alumni Association Board of Directors for GCSU.

 Theatre
George Mengert
• Fortieth year on the Pace faculty; directs the Upper School theatre program. • Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in theatre from Georgia State University. • Ph. D. from Emory University. • Debate coach at Pace for 12 years . • Performed and directed extensively throughout Atlanta. • Received numerous awards for the Georgia High School Association’s one-act play competitions. • Directed over 100 plays and musicals. • Many of his students have majored in theatre and continue to professionally perform. • “I go to new York and london yearly and try to see everything that is current.” |
 Pace is widely recognized for its Fine Arts program. In particular, the school’s theatre program has received wide accolades since the 1970s. because of the dedication and support from the actors and their families, along with the theatre program’s tradition of excellence, Pace is able to produce musicals and plays on par with professional theater groups. this comes from the quiet firm guidance of an icon in the Pace community, Dr. george Mengert. |

• Third year teaching strings at Pace • Bachelor of Music from Georgia State University; Master from the University of Cincinnati. • Member of Atlanta Youth Symphony orchestra in high school. • Taught lessons at the Lovett School and through Courtnay and Rowe Inc.

 Enter into the strings room and you will immediately be taken back by the relaxed atmosphere that Tara Harris has been able to create for her students. Since starting at Pace, she has grown her program and introduced more students to the discipline. In fact Lower School students are lining up to take her class.
As a teacher, “I strive to instill in my students the importance of creativity, effective and efficient practice, and consistency. I hope to motivate my students as I was motivated.” |

 Technical TheatreScott Sargent
• Sixteenth year as technical theater director and teacher of stagecraft at Pace. • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, with a Minor in Philosophy from Georgia Tech. • Production manager for Drama Tech Theater and worked for the Ferst Center for the Arts. • Interned for the Georgia Shakespeare Festival, where he was a master carpenter. • Freelance set designer for Actor’s Express, Georgia Ensemble Theatre, the Atlanta Civic Center and Theatrical Outfit, earning him Best Set awards. • As an artist, his unusual furniture designs have been featured in a one-man show, “Whimsical furniture,” at the King Plow Arts center. |
Patrick Campbell
• Eighteen years of theatre production experience.
• Degrees in Theatre Arts from Young Harris College and LaGrange College.
• Past Production Coordinator for the Horizon Theatre and Production Manager/Technical Director for the Aurora Theatre.
• As an actor, has performed in featured roles with countless local and regional theatre companies.
• Has designed more than 75 sets and innumerable props and pieces of scenery.
 Unmatched talent is what makes our set department ahead of the competition. From the Pace holiday program, “Light One Candle,” to the Upper and Middle school musicals, to the Lower School grade plays, Scott Sargent and Patrick Campbell team together to make magic for the students and their audiences. Pace students have the opportunity to take Advanced Stagecraft their junior or senior year and learn from the best. |

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards has honored nine Pace Academy Upper School students for writing. More than 200,000 works were submitted for judging in the annual competition, which gives awards in the Gold Key, Silver Key and Honorable Mention categories. Pace winners are:
