Pace Academy offers extensive resources for students and parents in the area of college counseling. In addition to knowledgeable class deans and college counselors, Pace offers:
- Large and small group informational meetings
- Library of written material and computer software
- College “Fact File” for each junior and senior student
- Optional trip to visit colleges and universities in the Northeast or Mid-Atlantic states which enable students to see college campuses and speak with college admission officers
Each year, the college counselors organize a variety of services and programs including:
- Financial aid counseling, to help students and parents plan for higher education
- Approximately 100 college representatives visit Pace yearly to meet with students
- Each September juniors and seniors take a bus to a local college fair where more than 200 colleges are represented.
In addition to day-to-day contact, the college counselors maintain contact with college admissions officers throughout the country by personally visiting college campuses and by attending professional conferences.
Formal meetings to discuss the college search process begin in the junior year which include:
- College planning classes
- Individual student conferences
- Family conferences
- College visits
- Mandatory class meeting for students and parents
- Special attention to help students plan their personal calendar for taking required standardized tests such as the SAT I, SAT II and ACT
In the senior year, the college counselors work closely with students to help them wisely choose colleges to which to apply and assist them in completing and submitting all testing and other application requirements in a timely manner. The college office receives from seniors all applications not submitted online, reviews them, and mails them to the colleges.
College counseling at Pace centers on the abilities, needs and desires of each student and family, and is focused on benefiting the student through numerous one-on-one counseling sessions. Our goal is for each student to be admitted into colleges that both appeal to the student and that also fit her/his academic, co-curricular, and personal profile. |
