Pace Academy is thrilled to announce that Jesse Tyler Ferguson from ABC's hit show "Modern Family" will be our featured guest at the 2012 Diversity At The Table event. The stage-turned-screen star first emerged in the Tony Award-winning Broadway production of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," and the Hollywood Reporter tagged Ferguson as one of "Ten to Watch" for his role on the CBS series "The Class." "Modern Family" is consistently recognized for its positive images of diversity, and Ferguson continues to be a voice for equality, advocating for diversity and inclusion, and passionately speaking out against bullying. Proceeds from the event benefit the Pace Academy Diversity Scholars Fund.

LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR OF DIVERSITY

As Director of Diversity, I believe the purpose of an effective educational program is to assist students in bridging the gap between themselves and the world. At Pace Academy, we have implemented diversity initiatives that have increased our visibility and highlighted our commitment to family and community engagement. We understand that an ever-changing world requires that we build value into our differences and sustain those values through our educational practices.

Engagement, relationships and awareness are key to our success. In the Upper School, the Global Education program, launched in 2009, is taking students on transformative journeys to different parts of the world where they engage in lessons of giving and service.

In the Middle School, our focus is on building relationships, and our educational exchange program with Ron Clark Academy (R.C.A.) continues to grow. We are excited to have welcomed several graduates of R.C.A. to the Pace student body! We recently launched a comprehensive bullying program in partnership with the Anti-Defamation League that is designed to support and promote an inclusive and respectful school environment. Last year, the eighth graders embarked on a civil rights journey that took them to Selma, Memphis and Montgomery to visit locations and historical sites that serve as vehicles for education and reflection on equality.

The Pace Academy Lower School continues to be a model for learning in which our teachers develop creative and engaging lessons that celebrate the differences in us all.

Our goal is to always be better and to show leadership. We do that with diversity by continuing to educate and foster an environment in which all people listen and learn from each other. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. I welcome the opportunity to get to know you and your family.

At Pace Academy, we believe that a diverse and inclusive learning environment enhances the quality of a Pace education and advances our mission to create prepared, confident citizens of the world.

My best,

Philip McAdoo
