Study Tours
Vision

The Global Education program provides students with a range of curriculum-based travel opportunities that further their understanding of our globalized, interdependent world and empowers them to become more competent, competitive, and compassionate leaders for the next generation.
About the Program

In 2009 members of the Pace Academy Board of Trustees and the administrative team formalized their commitment to prepare students for the competitive and culturally complex world they inhabit by creating a Global Education program. The goal of the program is two-fold: first, to coordinate all of our Upper School international travel opportunities through a central office, and second, to develop a flagship program that will connect students’ curriculum with specially designed international experiences. These curricular-specific travel opportunities are intentionally planned to enliven and expand on classroom learning and are called "study tours." In the Upper School, study tours are planned with 12th-grade curriculum in mind. Each study tour has been developed in conjunction with an academic department, but with an eye toward interdisciplinary interests. To reflect the depth and breadth of our 12th-grade curriculum, a foreign language study tour, for example may be combined with an environmental science focus. A science-based study tour may be offered with an element of service learning. Study tours with a historical approach will introduce students to current political and economic developments that affect the world today. All study tours will allow our students and faculty to explore subject matter in a tangible, dynamic and engaging way, as well as provide opportunities for authentic cross-cultural appreciation.

Guiding Principles

The annual study tour program for our senior classes was created by our faculty with the following guiding principles in mind:

• To link the travel to the senior curriculum, in an interdisciplinary fashion, so that faculty and students can explore their subject matter in a more dynamic and tangible manner

• To help students reflect critically and think creatively about the intricacies of modern international systems and markets

• To facilitate a sophisticated international and cross-cultural appreciation of various societies and communities

• To expand, where possible, Pace’s commitment to community engagement on an international scale.

The Mission of Pace Academy:

To create prepared, confident citizens of the world

who honor the values and legacy of Pace Academy.
