 | Sustainability: Meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs; greater efficiency of resource use and a balance with the environment that protects natural eco-systems and human needs. Sustainable decisions are made when economic, social, and environmental needs are considered while we think long term, weigh all costs, live within limits, and share responsibility. |
Goal To excite and motivate the Pace community to reduce waste and increase efficiency at school (facilities, energy, water, food service, paper, transport) and to gain a concrete understanding of the role Sustainability plays in our economy, our community and in our own lives. |
|
Governance The steering committee, comprised of two parents, two faculty members and two students, will identify areas of focus and need and recruit relevant stakeholders. We will seek input and guidance from inside and outside the Pace Community. The Committee and its relevant subcommittees will collect baseline data and set target goals to help measure success and assist in adaptive decision making. |

Mission To engage students, faculty and parents in advancing Sustainability goals at Pace, both in what we do and how we do it on campus, as well as how we integrate Sustainability thinking into our curriculum and our lives. We will strive to make Pace Academy part of a healthy ecosystem, reducing our negative impacts on the environment. The Pace community will be global stewards by being involved in campus-wide decisions regarding energy usage, facility and building design and maintenance, recycling, and food service. We will partner with other organizations to provide leadership expertise in innovative ways to build a sustainable, healthy community.
Our core areas of focus are:
• Healthy Ecosystems
• Healthy Built Environment/Energy & Resource Use
• Healthy Working Community/Campus Life
• Procurement & Waste
• Transportation
• Curriculum

Created by schools for schools, the Green Cup Challenge is the first and only student-driven interschool energy challenge. The GCC invites all schools to measure and reduce electricity use and Greenhouse Gas emissions, and supports greening efforts including recycling and water conservation. The GCC empowers students and builds community, while raising awareness about climate change and the importance of resource conservation. Visit www.greencupchallenge.net to find out who is participating in this year's Green Cup Challenge. |

Measure & Reduce - Pace students will collect and provide energy consumption data for the month of February in `07, `08 and `09. This back data will be added into the GCC energy database. For February `10 the team must enter Pace's weekly energy consumption into the database to see how much our school can reduce it's rate of energy consumption.
