LS Technology Curriculum

Students learn about computers in the Lower School in order to use them as tools. The goal of the program is for all students to develop competency and confidence when using technology to become more efficient and productive learners
There are two computer labs in the Lower School. Both are equipped with Mac computers. There is also a mobile laptop lab that allows for individual classroom instruction. In addition to the labs, each classroom has, on average, four Mac computers. The students’ early computer lessons are designed to teach the proper way to interact with hardware and a variety of software programs that correlate to specific curriculum areas such as math and language arts.

Middle School Technology Curriculum

All 6th-grade students take a 9-week Computer Skills discovery course, and all 7th-grade students take a 9-week Digital Studio discovery course. These required courses focus on technology literacy, keyboarding, website development and proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Multimedia is a yearlong elective course that emphasizes technology (units in robotics and videography).

The Middle School is equipped with one stationary computer classroom, a video production lab, 4 laptop carts (each housing 20 iBooks), as well as a number of digital and video cameras.
US Technology Curriculum

Four courses are currently offered by the Computer Science Department in the Upper School. For those students who have no knowledge of computer programming, Introduction to Programming is an appropriate choice. Students with stronger math backgrounds and more experience should consider taking AP Computer Science, a full-year course covering the College Board’s A curriculum. Programming cannot be taught effectively through lectures and note-taking. Hence, much of the class time in both courses is spent programming: experimenting with code, debugging and rewriting. The department also offers Basic Computer Essentials and Data Structures and Algorithms.

The Upper School building is equipped with two stationary computer labs and 3 laptop carts (20 iBooks each). An additional Upper School computer classroom and lab is located in the Fine Arts Center. Students have access to computers in the Library, and the Student Council maintains a student laptop loaner program, allowing students to check out a laptop for on-campus use throughout the school day.
