Model UN Concludes Season

Three models; 39 delegates; six sponsors—oh my! Pace Middle and Upper School MUNers covered the Southeast to attend three models: at George Washington University (GWU), at Emory University and at Paideia School. Students explored topics from the Trojan War and deep-sea mining to book censorship and the climate crisis—and everything in between.

GWU’s WAMUNC provided an opportunity for eighth- through 12th-grade students to take a break from final position paper preparation by enjoying peak D.C. cherry blossom season, exploring an urban university campus and collaborating with students from across the world. Sophomore Jack Ellner received Honorable Mention recognition for his work.

Pace Model UN alumnus and Emory professor Dr. Courtney Freer ’04 kicked off Emory’s ENMUNC with an impressive keynote speech exploring the intersection of domestic and foreign policy in decision-making. After three days of strong diplomacy and participation by all, two “crisis” committee delegates received Verbal Commendations for their work: sophomores Nekhi Stover and Arnav Maddineni

Finally, Middle and Upper School students met local MUNers and slogged through the frustrations of committee work with political strategizing, shifting alliances and, in some cases, outright betrayal, at Paidea’s second-ever local model. Pace delegates recognized for their committee contributions were seventh-grader Rohan Brahma, named Outstanding Delegate, and eighth-grader Emma Rich and freshman Sriarvind Padmanabhan, who received Honorable Mentions.

Class of 2024 College Athletes List Adds Two

This morning, two additional members of the Class of 2024 committed to continue their athletics careers at the collegiate level, bringing the total number of college athletes in the class to 16. In the fall, Maddox Crawford and Will Moore will both head to Sewanee: The University of the South to play football and baseball, respectively. Join us in celebrating these outstanding student-athletes!

Four Knights Named to All-State Orchestra

Last month, four Knights were selected to perform in the Georgia Music Educators Association All-State Orchestra. Sophomore Dominic Hantula, eighth-grader Arjun Nirgudkar, and seventh-graders Mac Luber and Nathan Wu each advanced through two highly competitive rounds of auditions against some of the best musicians in the state. These Knights then spent a weekend rehearsing and performing advanced musical selections in Athens, Ga.—congratulations!

Knights Selected for Sixth-Grade Honor Band

A talented group of Middle School musicians will perform with the sixth-grade Fulton County Honor Band next month. Dean Brown (trumpet), Mikah Burnett (baritone), Edward Elkins (clarinet), Bryson Parker (flute) and Blake Shirley (baritone) were nominated by band teachers Danny Doyle and Ellie Neufeld and were chosen based on instrumentation and school representation. “We are super excited for these musicians to represent Pace Academy!” says Neufeld.

Knights Crush Chemistry Exam

On Sunday, March 17, juniors Claire Jiang and Olivia Resnick and sophomore Arnav Maddineni participated in the American Chemical Society’s U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad Local Exam, a multi-tiered competition that offers high-school students a chance to flex their chemistry knowledge and skills. To prepare for this exam, students devoted additional time and effort learning topics that go beyond the typical Pace chemistry curriculum. Kudos to this trio for a strong performance on the local exam and for broadening their understanding of chemistry!
