ICGL Study Tours

From West Paces Ferry to the World

Pace Academy’s Isdell Center for Global Leadership brings the school’s mission—to create prepared, confident citizens of the world—to life, in part through meaningful international study tours. ICGL study tours are faculty-led, theme-driven travel experiences that invite students to step into new cultures, ask big questions and see their classroom learning come to life.

Since 2014, Pace students and teachers have departed Atlanta on more than 125 ICGL study tours, visiting 57 countries and Antarctica. More than 1,800 students have participated in these experiences, supported in large part by the Parents Club’s Citizens of the World Travel Grant program.

What is an ICGL Study Tour?

Study tours are intentional extensions of the curriculum, designed to connect the ICGL annual global theme—such as Water, Food, Climate, Energy, Waste, Global Health, Education or Technology—to real people and real places.

Travel opportunities begin after fifth grade and continue through Middle and Upper School.

  • Fifth graders may participate in a June study tour to Costa Rica. In Middle School, study tours run concurrently with week-long February ICGL Minimesters and again in early summer. In Upper School, students travel over spring break in March and in early summer.
  • Study tours are led by Pace faculty and staff, in partnership with trusted third-party partners across the globe. Each experience is shaped by essential questions connected to the ICGL’s core objectives: global mindedness, cultural appreciation, engaged citizenship and leadership.
  • Experiences range from environmental fieldwork and outdoor adventure to conversations with community partners, entrepreneurs, educators and nonprofits around the world.

We ask students to be travelers—not tourists—and to immerse themselves in academic and cultural experiences that challenge them to listen deeply, think critically and reflect on their own roles as “prepared, confident citizens of the world.”

Access to Global Opportunities

At Pace, we believe that all students should have an international experience before graduation and that travel plays an essential role in education and intellectual development. The Parents Club’s Citizens of the World Travel Grant helps make ICGL study tours accessible by covering the cost of a student’s airfare once in Middle School and once in Upper School. This commitment reflects our belief that diverse voices, experiences and perspectives make global learning stronger and make our community more inclusive.

Oh, the places we've gone!
