Support & Resources
Our Lower School is known for its engaging curriculum. We develop problem solvers and creative thinkers who are keenly aware of the world around them and strive to make it a better place. And while we set the academic bar high, we provide the support and resources necessary to ensure that our young learners achieve their individual goals.
Academic Resource Center
Pace provides academic support to students, as well as to faculty and parents. Our two Learning Specialists who serve the Lower School are available during school hours and after school to assist students. With this support, students learn study skills and strategies for acquiring, maintaining, recalling and applying information at each grade level. This includes organizational skills, effective time management, recording new information and test-taking strategies.
Fifth-Grade Study Hall
Monday through Thursday, fifth-grade students are offered study hall after school. This supervised time allows students to complete assignments in a setting where teacher assistance and guidance is available, if needed.
Library
The Soni Family Library, includes quiet nooks for reading, designated spaces for small-group work, a video conferencing area and open shelving.
The Lower School Library offers students and teachers convenient access to literature and technology. In collaboration with teachers, the library staff guides students as they search for information, supporting classroom work and presenting enjoyable reading materials.
During scheduled library visits, our librarians read to each class, teach information literacy skills and assist students with book selection. The library is available for research sessions, both during scheduled visits and individual time slots.
The librarians, in consultation with teachers, parents, students and professional organizations, select appropriate resources for the library throughout the year. Our vast collection is expanded and enhanced by student book donations during the annual book fair. Extensive summer reading lists for all grade levels are composed to engage and inspire interest in both classics and contemporary writing.
Technology
With access to numerous computers, tablets, iPads, 3D printers, technology and programming instruction, and an ActivBoard in every classroom, our students have the world at their fingertips. Teachers bring technology into their instruction and discussions as needed. Our use of technology teaches students the state-of-the-art skills they need as 21st-century learners.
Videoconferencing
Through the application of our videoconferencing technology, Pace students go beyond the classroom to interact with guests and experts for all subjects. Visiting the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, engaging in discussions with authors and communicating with pen pals are examples of how Pace students experience the world around them without leaving the Lower School.
