Eleven members of the varsity track and field teams competed in the GHSA Class AAA state championship May 9-11 and, when all was said and done, several Knights ended up on the podium.

In the 800 meters, junior George Adams claimed the state title in 1:56.12; junior Sam Adams followed in 1:56.40 to take silver. Their performances garnered invitations to the Meet of Champions on Friday, May 17, at 8 p.m. at Marietta High School. G. Adams also landed on the podium with a third-place finish in the 1600 meters, and freshman Edward Blaha placed fifth in the 3200—both school records! Out of 34 teams, the Pace boys finished ninth overall.

For the girls, juniors Payton Payne and Paula Sandoval competed in the 3200 and finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Senior Justice Jackson finished her Pace track career on the state podium with a sixth-place finish in the 400, and sophomore Laura Romig was fourth in the 800 meters. The Pace girls finished in eighth place out of 32 teams. Congratulations, Knights!

For the first time since 1995, the varsity baseball team has advanced to the Georgia High School Association state finals!

The Knights will travel to Macon to take on Pike County High School in a doubleheader on Tuesday, May 21, with games beginning at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. If required, a third game will take place in Macon on Wednesday evening, May 22. The Knights will play at Luther Williams Stadium, home of the Macon Bacon.

A fan bus will depart from Pace’s back parking lot at 2:30 p.m. on May 21 and will return to Pace at the conclusion of the second game. Middle and Upper School students may sign up to ride the fan bus here. The sign-up deadline is Monday, May 20, at 3 p.m.

The spring sports season has been an unprecedented time for Pace Athletics! On Monday, May 6, the varsity boys tennis team claimed the GHSA Class AAA state championship with a 3-2 win over Lovett; the girls followed on Tuesday, May 7, with their own 3-2 victory and state title.

This marks the first time since 1979 that both the Pace boys and girls tennis teams have won gold. Congratulations, coaches and players! And thanks to the many fans who made the trip up Pace Mountain to cheer on the Knights! 

US Lacrosse, the sport’s national governing body, has named seniors Sam Assaf and Charlie Warren 2019 All-Academic honorees, while a record-breaking five boys lacrosse players have been selected to the All-State Team. Congratulations to First Team All-State players Assaf and Warren, and to Patrick Thurman, Mbiti Williams and Tripp Trimble, who received All-State Honorable Mention!

The varsity boys lacrosse team defeated Kell High School 13-4 to advance to the Sweet 16 round of the GHSA Class AAA tournament. The Knights will play on Monday, May 6. Opponent, location and game time are to be determined.

The varsity girls and boys tennis teams have advanced through the GHSA Class AAA playoffs and will take on Lovett in their respective state-championship matches this Saturday, May 4, at the Rome Tennis Center.

Make plans to cheer on the Knights to a state title! The girls play at 9:30 a.m., while the boys compete at 1 p.m. The Rome Tennis Center is located approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes (70 miles) from Pace. All-day admission to the facility is $5; parking is free.

Pace Athletics will provide a fan bus for Middle and Upper School students who wish to attend. The bus will depart Pace’s back parking lot at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning and return following the boys match. Students must stop by the Athletics office to sign up for a seat by noon on Friday, May 3. The Booster Club will cover the cost of student admission, but students should bring money for concessions. USA Basketball has selected varsity boys basketball head coach Sharman White as a 2019 USA U16 assistant coach. The USA Basketball Men’s U16 National Team will play in the FIBA Americas U16 Championship, which will take place June 3-9 in Belém, Brazil.

This is White’s seventh USA Basketball coaching assignment. Previously, he served as a court coach for the 2018 USA Men’s U17 World Cup Team training camp. White also was a gold-medal winning assistant coach for USA Basketball at the 2015 FIBA Americas U16 Championship, and he coached at the 2014, 2015 and 2018 USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team October Minicamps. Congratulations, Coach White!

More than 1,100 runners, walkers, spectators and volunteers supported the Pace Booster Club by participating in the 37th annual Pace Race on Saturday, April 13. Thank you!
