KNIGHTS FINISH REGULAR SEASON; WIN 2, LOSE 1 THIS PAST WEEK

On Tuesday, Oct. 2, the varsity volleyball team traveled to Woodward Academy to take on the War Eagles and Wesleyan. Against Wesleyan, a slow start found the Knights behind early as Wesleyan stormed to a commanding 9-point lead, but the team kept its composure and mounted a comeback to take the first set. With Pace in a better rhythm, the second set was much smoother, which resulted in a straight two-set victory, 25-21 and 25-15.

Woodward was next up. The Knights had never defeated Woodward; they lost last year's match two games to one, but this year was different. The Knights responded with superb serving, passing and defense to cruise to a two-set victory, 25-13 and 25-20.

On Oct. 3, the team celebrated its seven seniors prior to its match against Hebron Christian (currently ranked No. 1 in Class A), and the Lions showed why they deserve their top ranking. Hebron Christian operated on all cylinders—serving, passing, setting and attacking. Pace was unable to respond in the first set but came back much stronger in sets two and three to make the match much closer. However, it wasn't enough; Hebron won the match in straight sets, 25-12, 26-24 and 25-19.

Next up, Pace will face Lovett in the area semifinals on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 5 p.m. in the Inman Center. Come out and show your support!

AQUAKNIGHTS FINISH STRONG SEASON WITH SOLID SHOWING IN D1 STATE TOURNAMENT

With its runner-up finish in the D2 State Tournament, the water polo club traveled to Cumming on Oct. 6 to compete in the D1 Water Polo State Tournament. The team's first match was against No. 1 seed Norcross A.

Goals came from senior Andrew Jenkins (2), juniors Jackson Hamel (3), John O'Brien (1) and Alan Tapper (1), and eighth-grader Barrett Hight (1). Eighth-grader Carter Freudenstein had three assists and 14 saves in goal. However, the Norcross offense was simply too overpowering, and the Knights went down in defeat 14-8.

In game two, the Knights faced Lakeside A. In what would be the final game of the season, Pace was defeated 16-5. Knights scoring came from Jenkins, who had four goals to bring his season total to 100! Hamel scored one goal on an assist from O'Brien. Junior Harris Greenbaum had a great game in goal, turning away 12 shots.

The team wants to give coaches Ague and Brown a huge thanks for their hard work this season!

KNIGHTS LOSE TO CATS 28-16, AWAIT THE LOVETT LIONS

On Oct. 5, the varsity football team lost to neighborhood rival Westminster 28-16 before a packed crowd at Walsh Field. Knights fans came out in droves to support the team in this newly formed rivalry, despite the beginning of fall break.

Led by senior Deron Moore, senior Parker Spillers and freshman Xavier Agostino, the Knights defense stifled the vaunted Cats' spread offense early in the game. Senior Jared Rayman, senior Keashawn Perryman and freshman Deuce Jordan II got the offense going for a nice drive down to the Cats' 32-yard line. Then senior Patrick Markwalter completed the scoring drive with a long, 49-yard field goal to put the Knights up 3-0.

But that was the Knights' final lead in the game as the Cats scored on a quick, three-play, 80-yard drive to make it 7-3. Both teams' defenses continued to have the upper hand versus the opposing offenses. Westminster engineered a last-minute, end-of-the-half drive to get a lucky touchdown pass that was tipped into the end zone and fell into the hands of a Cats wide receiver for a 14-3 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Cats stretched their lead to 20-3, but the Knights offense kept its focus as Rayman orchestrated an 80-yard drive that resulted in the Knights' first touchdown early in the fourth quarter, making it 21-10. Westminster scored again to make it 28-10, but the Knights' offense kept battling. Rayman hit junior Mbiti Williams on a deep slant for a 45-yard touchdown on the next drive, making it 28-16. Pace tried an onside kick, but the Cats recovered and ran out the clock for the victory.

Next up for the Knights: FRIDAY, OCT. 12, at 7:30 p.m. versus LOVETT in the Lions' stadium. The team needs everyone to come out and support the Knights in this region game against another neighborhood rival!

VARSITY SOFTBALL ENDS REGULAR WITH 11-3 RECORD, HEADS TO THE PLAYOFFS

Last week marked the end of varsity softball team's regular season. The Knights ended region play by defeating Westminster 6-4, mercy ruling Cedar Grove 17-1 and then losing to Westminster 0-3. An 11-3 record gives the Knights a third-place finish in the region.

The rival game against Westminster was an awesome showdown. On the mound, junior Caroline Landis pitched an extraordinary game to land the victory. Landis went seven full innings, allowing six hits and striking out nine. At the plate, Landis batted .500, going 2-4, and scored a run for the Knights. Sophomore Sydney Silverstein, sophomore Jamie Kornheiser and senior Caelan Corbally each racked up a single, an RBI and a run scored, contributing to the win.
