Boys Basketball Dominates Tournament of Champions

On Saturday, Dec. 5, the varsity boys basketball team traveled to Wheeler High School to compete in the Tournament of Champions Classic, a one-game showcase in which the Knights faced Arlington Christian School.

Pace came out defending the ball well, which translated into several easy offensive opportunities. After creating nine turnovers in the first quarter, the Knights jumped out to a 19-6 lead. Senior Matthew Cleveland showed his athleticism by jumping the passing lanes and following it up with strong finishes. Fellow senior Madison Durr distributed the ball well, which led to impressive assists, and senior Cole Middleton anchored the defense with his basket protection. This trio of seniors and their teammates took a 40-20 lead to halftime.

Freshman LJ Moore took advantage of the opportunity in the second half with contributions of his own. The early lead proved insurmountable as the Knights won 77-48. The win moved Pace to 4-1 overall. This week, the Knights have two key region match-ups: Thursday at 7 p.m. at Therrell High School and Saturday at 4 p.m. at home against Booker T. Washington High School.

Key Performances: Cleveland: 23 pts; 8 rebs; 4 steals; Durr: 16 pts; 7 rebs; 11 assists; Middleton: 15 pts; 7 rebs; 5 steals; Moore: 16 pts
