Cross-Country Arrives as Double Trouble, Leaves as Double Region Champs

It was a clean sweep for both the JV and varsity girls and boys cross-country teams at this past weekend’s region championships. Senior George Blaha paced the Knights to a first-place finish with his individual region title. The boys put in a true team effort: senior Robert Mallis finished third; senior Grant Thompson was fourth; sophomore Matthew Wells placed sixth; and seniors Sam Howe, Kargil Behl and Jason Tapper were eighth, 10th and 11th, respectively.

The varsity girls were up next and added to the region sweep. Sophomore Caroline Hood was crowned region champion. Seniors Laura Arenth and Kate Jonas were second and fourth, respectively; senior Jordan White was fifth; freshman Olivia Resnick finished eighth; senior Nikki Byrne was ninth; and junior Kate Webb claimed the 10th-place spot.

The JV runners were not going to be outdone. Eighth-grader Ford Jordan was region runner-up, followed by senior Samuel Alkire in third, sophomore Brody Matthias in fourth and freshman Benjamin Ganz in sixth; sophomore Henry Gaudet rounded out the Knights’ top five. These finishes gave the JV boys first place overall.

Senior Austin Culpepper led the JV girls with her first-place finish. Junior Elizabeth Feagin followed in third; senior Raina Moseley was fourth; sophomore Wells Howe was fifth; and sophomore Sarah Proctor finished sixth to round out the top five. These finishes concluded the sweep of the region meet for the Knight Harriers.

The Knights now advance to the state meet in Carrollton on Friday, Nov. 5.
