Football Battles Hard, Comes Up Short Versus Region Foe Columbia

The varsity football team kicked off region play against the Columbia High School Eagles on Friday, Sept. 10. The Knights started the game fast with an opening drive sack by sophomore Hevin Brown-Shuler that forced an early punt by the Eagles. Sophomore running back Christain Johnson continued his tremendous season with a first-quarter touchdown to help the Knights get out to a first-quarter lead 7-6.

After the Knights fell behind 21-7 heading into the fourth quarter due to a turnover for a touchdown, sophomore receiver Terrence Kiel broke away for a 54-yard gain that set up junior Kendall Evans for a 9-yard touchdown reception to cut the lead to 21-14 with 2 minutes left in the game. Ultimately, the Knights fell to the Eagles 21-14 despite the late rally. Kiel led the Knights with 122 yards on four receptions, while Evans caught five balls for 58 yards and a touchdown. Johsnon tallied 110 rushing yards to go along with his touchdown. Brown-Shuler led the Knights’ defense with eight tackles and three sacks. Juniors Frank Caldwell and Brody Hingst both contributed tackles for losses.

The Knights look forward to taking on McNair High School on Friday, Sept. 17, at Riverview Sports Complex.
