The varsity boys and girls tennis teams won their semifinal matches on April 5 to advance to the GHSA Tennis State Championship. The boys played first against Early County. The Knights’ No. 1 doubles team of senior Cole Kaplan and sophomore William McMullan got the team on the board first with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. The No. 2 doubles team of senior Jude Black and junior Hunt Stevens made it 2-0 shortly thereafter with a quick victory as well. Then, facing a tough senior player, freshman Harrison Silver clinched the victory at No. 1 singles. When play was stopped, freshman Matthew Hall was up a set at No. 2 singles and sophomore Noah Benz was in control at No. 3 singles.

The girls then took the court against Rabun County and made short work of their opponents. Junior Caitlyn Pinsker and freshman Caileigh Pinsker did not give up a game at No. 1 and No. 2 singles to give the Knights a quick 2-0 lead. Then, the No. 2 doubles team of junior Brooke Brumfield and sophomore Sarah Proctor clinched the team win. The No. 1 doubles team of senior Kate Jonas and sophomore Uma Graz finished their match moments after No. 2 doubles, so the team score was officially 4-0. When play was stopped, freshman Claire Jiang was up a set at No. 3 singles.

Both teams face Lovett in the state finals in Rome, Ga., this Saturday, May 14. The girls match starts at 9 a.m., followed by the boys at 1 p.m. Tickets must be purchased via GoFan; additional information about the state championship is available here.
