Highlights From 2019-2020

As a final tribute to the Class of 2020, below are some brief reflections on our 2019-2020 athletics seasons in addition to Game Knight cover photos from the fall, winter and spring seasons.

FALL

Competition Cheer: Inaugural year; won region championship (first-ever); qualified/ competed at state tournament  

Boys Cross-Country: Second in state; region champions; George Adams All-Metro

Girls Cross-Country: Second in state; Payton Payne and Laura Arenth top 10 in state

Football: State playoffs; Mibit Williams First Team All-Region; Justin Johson HM All-Region; 

Sam Harris HM All-Region; Christain Bing HM All-Region 

Softball: State playoffs (first-ever Sweet 16)

Volleyball: State champions (back to back to back)

Water Polo: 10th place regular-season finish; 9th place GHSWPA state tournament

 

WINTER

Boys Basketball: Region champions; state champions; school-record 28 wins

Girls Basketball: State playoffs; Virginia Hobbs First Team All-Region; Jordan Upchurch Region POTY, All-State

Boys Swimming & Diving: 9-3 record; 13th overall (GHSA 1A-3A)

Girls Swimming & Diving: 10-2 record; 13th overall (GHSA 1A-3A); Lizzy Kaye state diving champion (3x); Erin Hood runner-up in 200 IM & 100 breaststroke

Wrestling: Nine wrestlers in area tournament; four wrestlers in sectional tournament; three wrestlers in state tournament; George Blaha (113 lbs) places sixth overall

 

SPRING

Boys Lacrosse: Ended the season 5-0; ranked No. 8 in Georgia in an AJC poll 

Girls Lacrosse: Claire Wierman ends her career as the all-time leading points leader (148 goals + 35 assists = 183 points) and all-time draw control leader (271 draw) 

Boys Soccer: 8-2-1 regular-season record; tied for first place in region (5-0 record)

Girls Soccer: Tied for first place in region (5-0 record)

Boys Track & Field: Sam Webb, Sam Adams, Jonny Sundermeier, Robert Mallis set new school record (11:09) for boys distance medley relays

Girls Track & Field: Brooke Fung Chung, Paula Sandoval, Raina Moseley, Payton Payne set new school record (14:02) for girls distance medley relays

 

All-American Honors

School Records Set in 2019-2020:

Boys Basketball: School-record 28 wins

Girls Basketball: Jordan Upchurch makes 114 three-point field goals (previous record was 87)

Diving: Lizzy Kaye set school and pool records for six- and 11-dive totals

Swimming: Erin Hood broke a pool record in the 200 IM; Jason Rosenbloum, Carter Freudenstein, Barrett Hight, Rivers Graham set a school record for the 200 freestyle

Volleyball: Sasha Ratliff - Career Attack Percentage (.533 is a new state record); career blocks per set - 1.07; single-season attack percentages: 586 (2016); .639 (2017); .454 (2019). Dominique Turner - 1,635 career digs; 4.1 career digs per set; 5.8 single-season digs per set (2017)
