A Debate Update

It’s been a busy fall for Pace debate! From Oct. 28 to 30, the team attended the Meadows Invitational Tournament in Las Vegas, where the dynamic duo of junior Will Cannaday and sophomore Stephen Yang officially qualified for the Tournament of Champions by finishing as quarterfinalists. Senior Kabir Singh and sophomore Megan Klingler notched a ninth-place finish.

Then, on Nov. 15 and 16, the team had an awesome weekend at the Peach State Classic tournament in Carrollton, Ga. With some of the youngest debaters in the field, Pace won both the varsity and rookie divisions. The ninth-grade team of Arnav Maddineni and Zaki George defeated seniors, juniors and sophomores on the way to claiming the championship title. Eighth-graders Ben Rodbell and Will McDaid defeated high-school opponents in the semifinals of the rookie division to achieve a first-place finish of their own. Additionally, eighth-graders Clinton Goode and Shaan A. ranked as quarterfinalists. In the varsity division, seniors Singh and Luca Tanasa also finished as quarterfinalists. Overall, 18 students represented the Knights in Carrollton—the most to attend a tournament in many years—and an impressive 12 went home with winning records. Way to go, Knights!
