Celebrating Black History Month!

This February, the Pace Academy community will celebrate Black History Month across all three divisions. Black History Month programming will include presentations from students, families and artists as a means of honoring the ongoing contributions of Black people—locally and globally. A huge thanks to the faculty and parent volunteers who have been working to help our students’ visions for celebration come to life. There are still many ways to get involved during this commemoration month.

Introduced in our Lower School, our Black History Month Activity Passport includes multiple ways to celebrate Black history with your family. Feel free to use the QR codes to discover places to visit around Atlanta and other ways to learn more about Black history. And as a reminder, Lower School students who complete four activities will receive a bracelet for their intentional effort and curiosity.

Please also consider visiting one (or more) Black-owned restaurant in the city with your family to celebrate the month. Pace families compiled a list of Black-owned restaurants in Atlanta. The list organizes restaurants by cuisine, such as American, BBQ, Caribbean and desserts. Please feel free to use this list even beyond this month!

On Saturday, Feb. 10, at 10 a.m. please join us for a walking tour of historic Auburn Avenue led by Associate Director of the Isdell Center for Global Leadership Ted Ward. The tour will begin at The King Center and will hit iconic sites such as the Butler Street YMCA, Atlanta Life Insurance, Atlanta Daily World, Big Bethel A.M.E. Church, Ebenezer Baptist Church and Dr. King’s birth home. The tour will conclude at the famous Sweet Auburn Municipal Market. If you are interested in joining, please complete this form

SAVE THE DATE! Pace is hosting the second annual Black History Month Family Celebration for families in all divisions who represent the Black and African diaspora. The event will take place Sunday, Feb. 25, at 3 p.m. in Boyd Gym. More details to come!
