Kelly Smith joined Bennett Thrasher in 2010 and currently a Partner in the Real Estate Hospitality practice. Kelly has over a decade of experience and works primarily in the U.S. real estate industry focusing on complex tax consulting and compliance engagements for domestic and international investors, developers, contractors, managers and other closely-held real estate concerns. Kelly has extensive experience with technical partnership issues and structuring transactions involving commercial, retail, industrial, multi-family and single-family residential real estate, land development, hospitality, resort owners and operators as well as other privately-held businesses in the retail and restaurant industries, primarily representing restaurant franchisors.
Prior to joining BT, Kelly began her career at McNair, McLemore, Middlebrooks & Co., LLP, a local firm in Macon, Ga., where she worked with closely-held businesses providing payroll, sales, bookkeeping and income tax services. She then spent over two years in industry at Morgan Stanley working in finance extensively with their domestic and international real estate funds preparing high-profile analysis to provide qualitative explanations and performance analysis for investors and senior-level management to achieve optimum performance of invested funds.
Kelly graduated from Mercer University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Business Administration and received a Master of Taxation from Georgia State University in 2010. She became a Certified Public Accountant in Georgia in 2010 and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Georgia Society of CPAs (GSCPA) Real Estate Section. Kelly is also an active member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and has served as a Big Sister through the Atlanta Big Brothers Big Sisters organization.
Kelly resides in Vinings with her dog, Charlie. She loves running, Orangetheory, and all things Atlanta, especially Atlanta United FC.
