Kristin Chick Carpenter ’07 works for Purpose Built Schools Atlanta, which strives to turn around failing schools, put all children on a trajectory for success and, in the process, help revitalize the neighborhoods the schools serve. Kristin is managing the transition and reopening of Carver High School, the fourth school managed by Purpose Built Schools Atlanta.
Kristin left Deloitte Consulting to begin her work in education, joining Teach for America in 2014. She taught ninth-grade math in Clayton County, Ga., as well as fourth grade in Oakland, Calif. In addition to classroom teaching, Kristin enjoyed building relationships with students through coaching cheerleading and Girls on the Run.
In between her years of teaching, Kristin worked alongside Colorado State Senator Mike Johnston, creating and reforming policies for underserved youth and communities in and around the Denver area. After leaving the classroom, she spent two years in Boston working for a strategy consulting firm serving education companies.
Kristin married Danny Carpenter (Galloway Class of 2007) in 2017 is thrilled to have recently moved back to Atlanta. She serves on the board of a local nonprofit, Foreverfamily, and looks forward to continuing to grow and strengthen her community here in Atlanta.
