IN WHAT GRADE DID YOU JOIN PACE?
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE PACE?
I chose Pace because of the sense of community. When you walk onto campus it is so inviting and everyone is so kind and openhearted. I never felt like an outsider when I was walking around campus because everyone you pass is so sweet. Pace is close-knit, and the relationships that I have been able to build within my grade and with my teachers are irreplaceable.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PEERS AT PACE?
If I could describe my peers in one word it would be supportive. My peers have been nothing but loving and encouraging since the day I came to Pace. They never made me feel like an outsider and were so inviting. Everyone at Pace pushes you to achieve and be your best self. You are never alone. It is a really nice feeling to know that your peers will always have your back in any situation that you face, whether it is inside or outside of class.
WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE YOU INVOLVED IN AT PACE?
I play on Pace’s varsity girls’ soccer team and for a team outside of school. I also participate in darkroom photography at Pace.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT PACE?
My favorite thing about Pace is the freedom. When I came in 6th grade I was so excited to gain more freedom, and that is exactly what Pace gave me. I had my own locker, where I had the freedom to responsibly store my books and binders. It gave me a sense of independence because the space was all mine. We also had recess in middle school which gave us the freedom to see our friends who might not be in our classes.
In the Upper School we are given two free periods, which provides you tons of independence and responsibility. You have the freedom to pick how you spend your time. You can hang out with friends, do homework, see teachers, study, visit the snack bar, or take some time to yourself. It is really nice to be given so much freedom because it shows how much the faculty trusts the students.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PACE TRADITION?
My favorite Pace tradition is Spirit Week, which happens right after winter break, so it's a super fun way to get back into school. Even though you don't experience it in its full effect until the Upper School, it is still super fun when you're in Middle or Lower Schools. Each grade picks a theme and we create a whole dance to different songs. The week leading up to the big performance, each grade decorates different parts of the school to their theme, and we have dress-up days. Your grade gets to meet after school everyday to choreograph and practice the dances. The practices are super fun because you get to eat dinner with your grade and stay up late dancing and goofing around with your friends. The teachers also go super easy on the homework that week which is nice! You get costumes and on the last day, everyone gets to perform their dance in front of the whole school! There are a bunch of teacher judges and it is super fun to watch everyone dance!
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR TEACHERS?
The teachers at Pace are truly your number one fans! They are always wanting you to be the best you can be and will be there for every step. They are always willing to stay after the school day or come early for extra one-on-one time, or if you simply need someone to talk too. You should never be scared to reach out to a Pace teacher because they will never turn you down! They want you to ask for help.
Building a strong relationship with your teacher is so important and will really help you in the long run. I still see my 6th-grade teachers and ask for advice or help, and I am an 11th grader! Some of my teachers have become more like friends and that makes their classes even more enjoyable.
Pace teachers are also amazing outside of class! I can't tell you how many teachers show up to support their students at sporting and art events. It feels so good to know that your teachers are always supporting you.
