IN WHAT GRADE DID YOU JOIN PACE?

Pre-First

WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE YOU INVOLVED IN AT PACE?

Swimming, Model UN, Student Council, orchestra, International Students Alliance, Gay-Straight Alliance, Habitat for Humanity and Junior Classical League.

Since sophomore year I have been a leader of Model UN. In these roles, we plan models and help delegates prepare.

WHY DID YOUR FAMILY CHOOSE PACE?

Besides the quality of education, the main reasons that I chose Pace were the teachers and resources. The teachers are not only here to teach but to imbue their passion of the subject into their students. I often stay after class to talk to my teachers about various things that I read in the news or questions that I have about the material. There are also so many opportunities to get involved in activities such as sports, arts, and clubs at school that help bring the student body together as a community.

HOW HAS PACE PREPARED YOU FOR COLLEGE?

I think Pace has taught me how to be a more effective, intelligent student. Most importantly, Pace has taught me how to ask questions. Pace teaches you how to be constantly engaged in a subject and approach it with a more critical and analytical eye than you would have before. This is true for both the STEAM and humanities courses I have taken. By relating the material to other classes in which you are interested, or to your everyday life, Pace teachers force you to ask questions.

I also think that Pace has taught me how to ask for help when I need it, something that will be important for me in college since there won’t be anyone holding my hand. Whenever I need help with material or even just feel stuck, there are plenty or resources at Pace to help me, but I need to be willing to ask.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE CLASS?

My favorite class so far has probably been Latin. I love learning the language and being able to read so many different classical authors from Caesar to Cicero to Ovid. Each day when we get to class, we translate and talk about the sections that we have prepared the night before. Gradually, the further you read, the more you get to see the story emerge and feel yourself getting better and more comfortable.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PEERS AT PACE?

Everyone at Pace is driven. Each student is involved in a multitude of activities around the school, but still has that one thing about which they are so passionate, whether it be academic or athletic or artistic.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PACE TRADITION?

My favorite Pace tradition is probably Spirit Week. It is a lot of work making our class banner and decorations along with a dance and video, but it brings the grade together so much and ends up being so much fun.
